Situé sur un éperon rocheux à 153 mètres d'altitude, le site de Puymirol fut déjà traversé, d'Est en Ouest, à l'époque Romaine par la voie antique dite "Clermontoise". C'est en 1246 que la citée fut fondée par le comte Raymond VII de Toulouse à la suite des Guerres de Religions. Durant cette période, le Sud-Ouest de la France vit naître un peu partout des villes nouvelles comme Puymirol appelées "Bastides"...
