We had dinner here whilst visiting for a wedding and it was beautiful. Very expensive (€48 for a risotto starter) but delicious and beautifully presented. My only complaint is that the chef was quite rude to us when he came out, we had no idea why. But other than that, I had the beef for main which was the best most succulent beef I’ve ever had!

My son and I visited the restaurant last week. We had pre-booked the Bastide Menu for a Saturday evening meal. We were greeted by a waiter and after confirming our name and booking, we were shown to the restaurant. There was no-one there. We were shown a menu card and wondered if we had come to a two-star Michelin Restaurant. When asked what we wanted, we replied that we had pre-booked the Bastide menu and were then told that we had entered the wrong restaurant. One should think we looked like pheasants or worse, but we had actually dressed up. The right restaurant was outside with a courtyard in the middle. I was lucky to have a heater facing me but my son was cold later in the evening! With the Bastide Menu two glasses of chef-selected wines were included. Nevertheless the sommelier asked what wines we wanted. After explaining we were offered a wonderful Viognier white wine. The sommelier hardly spoke english and the guidance and information on the wines were not professional. The food was mediocre. The art of deconstructing food elements must never lead to a meal with lower qualities and tastes compared to the original. But this was the case with all dishes except for the desert that was wonderful. The presentation was nice but the tastes were not interesting. The Rabbit was dry and spiced not to my liking. And would you believe it. In the courtyard there were benches where guests from the hotel could sit and smoke. I hate smokers near my meal. How this restaurant has achieved two Michelin stars I do not understand. I am sorry to say, but to me it does not even deserve one.

An excellent experience….ruined !! Last week my wife and stayed here and also dined in the main restaurant, taking the full menu gourmand, along with champagne, wines, etc (….it was our anniversary!) From the start the experience was excellent. Michel Trama and his son were delightful and attentive. Their staff were superb. The food was memorable. The room was very comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was fresh and light. So what ruined our experience? Well, we checked out, we received the ‘l’addition’ which was what I expected, when I noticed in front of me on the receptions desk a notice saying ‘offer’. It set out what we had just experienced (room, main dinner menu, breakfast, etc….though not the drinks) at about €180 less than my bill showed without the drinks. I asked very politely if this offer might be applied to our bill. The two ladies on reception were charming and said that they would ask the back office if this was OK. After a little while a lady (we think the owner’s wife…she never introduced herself) came out and, without asking us if we had had a nice stay or if we had slept well, simply said…. ‘c’est pas possible’. She then proceeded to harangue us (….the receptionists were getting very embarrassed), saying that the offer was only available for an online booking and if it was simply not possible to extend the offer to us. She carried on in this vein for about three minutes. We sat and listened. Eventually when we were allowed to speak, my wife pointed out that in fact she had spoken to directly to the hotel to make our reservation and at no point were we advised that a special offer was available, whether directly or online. I also pointed out that it could not an online-only special offer because the ‘offer’ was staring me in the face on the reception desk, so had I simply walked in off the street and booked the offer it would have been available to me. Nowhere did it say ‘on-line only’ ‘Madame’ was having none of it, simply repeating that it wasn’t possible. Of course, was eminently possible, but not for Madame. We had had enough by this stage and paid our bill, now just wanting to leave. While waiting for the receipt, Madame, now realising that we were very displeased, said that she felt we may not be happy with our experience and offered us a pot of jam !! Good grief. Where did this person learn (or not learn ) good client relations? The two now mortified receptionists came out to help with our luggage. They were so charming. We told them so and thanked them for their attentive assistance, but said that Madame in no way exemplified the standards that we had come to expect from our many lovely staying at Relais & Chateaux hotels, let alone Michelin 2* restaurants. In case we were over-reacting, we have told many of our friends of this experience. To a person they were horrified. So, an excellent experience ruined. We suspect that all madame will now have done is simply remove the offer notice from the reception desk 😊.
