About

    • NERAC, the magnificent

Nérac, the jewel of the Albret region, enchants visitors with its well-preserved architecture. Dominated by the Château de Nérac, the town exudes history at every turn. The only royal castle in the Lot-et-Garonne department, the Château de Nérac embodies the historical importance of the Albret region during the Renaissance. This Renaissance town was one of the residences of the Albret family, the family of Henry IV. It is also possible to visit the castle where the future King of France and Queen Margot lived.

Continue your cultural stroll in the shade of the Royal Park of La Garenne to discover the King's Baths and the statue of Fleurette, wander through the steep alleyways to admire the half-timbered houses of the old quarters, or cross the Old Bridge spanning the Baïse River. Consider a cruise on the Baïse aboard the Prince Henri.

HENRY IV CASTLE-MUSEUM, a royal residence

Great national figures of the 16th century such as the patron of letters Marguerite d'Angoulême, the Calvinist Jeanne d'Albret and especially the emblematic Henri IV and Reine Margot stayed in this royal residence.

The visit offers a captivating journey in the footsteps of Henry IV. You can take a selfie in his elegant gallery adorned with twisted columns, a jewel of Renaissance architecture. From room to room, you explore an exhibition and collections that depict the rise of the King of Navarre to the throne of France. You walk in the footsteps of the most popular of French kings.
