    • The cave is completely natural and still active. The geology of the land dates back more than 25 million years, from the end of the Tertiary era, then an underground river dug a beautiful gallery which continues to be adorned with an infinity of stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, columns and other calcite concretions. La Grotte de Lastournelle was discovered in 1878 thanks to farmers who dug a well to find water, they did not find water but a wonder underground. It is a family cave, the grandfather of the current owner discovered the entrance and made the fittings and opened to the public in 1957The Grotte de Lastournelle is therefore an extraordinary family heritage for three generations. You will marvel along 7 rooms with different landscapesdesigned and sculpted by Mother Nature. 45-minute guided tour at 14°C. In heatwave or rainy weather, a perfect place to spend time with family or friends while discovering the richness of the underground natural heritage of Lot-et-Garonne. At Sainte-Colombe-de-Villeneuve in the Lot-et-Garonne, the Grotte de Lastournelle is a "pearl of Aquitaine" in the Lot valley. Tourist site located on the territory of the Community of Agglomeration of Grand Villeneuvoislabeled "Country of art and history".

Highly recommend this to families. The caves are simply magnificent and all the more exciting to do the whole thing by torch light (they do this to preserve the atmosphere inside to stop overgrowth of vegetation which is detrimental to the limestone). The owner Sylvie is so friendly and our tour guide Hugo was outstanding. They were all friendly and so lovely with the children. Note that the caves are not suitable for anyone with mobility needs - we managed to do it with our four year old but I wouldn’t take a child younger than that. Wear trainers not sandals and take a jumper! Thank you for a wonderful time.

Worth the visit! Our guide (the granddaughter of the one who discovered the cave) was also very nice and knowledgeable. Just make sure to wear a good pair of non-slip shoes as it can get a bit slippery inside. May take 1hour-1.5hours of tour, and entry fee is just 7.50€ for adults, so definitely worth it!!! 😀

We went to the caves in August, but it happened to be a rainy day, which added to the experience. It's not a large cave by any means. But we needed something close to Agen (25 minutes) and...
