Explore the underground natural heritage of Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The cave is entirely natural and still active. The geology of the terrain dates back more than 25 million years, to the end of the Tertiary period, then an underground river carved a beautiful gallery which continues to be adorned with an infinite number of stalactites, stalagmites, draperies, columns and other calcite concretions.
Discovery
The Lastournelle Cave was discovered in 1878 by farmers digging a well in search of water. Instead of water, they found an underground marvel. It's a family cave. The current owner's grandfather discovered the entrance, made the necessary improvements, and opened it to the public in 1957. The Lastournelle Cave has thus been an extraordinary family treasure for three generations.
Various educational and family-friendly visits are offered.
You will marvel along 7 rooms with different landscapes designed and sculpted by Mother Nature.
