Standing proudly over a narrow valley classified as a protected natural site, Gavaudun Castle crowns a forty-meter-high rocky spur. It was first a heretic's den before becoming one of the last French strongholds during the Hundred Years' War.

Owned by great families from the regional nobility, mainly the Durforts and then the Lustracs, it benefited from the talent of the best architects of the time. It has belonged to the commune since 1805.

Visiting Gavaudun Castle means storming the dungeon by crossing the entrance carved into the rock, discovering the astonishing architecture of the fortress, contemplating the breathtaking view of the village and understanding its history thanks to varied and fun tour guides.

During the summer period, the castle offers various activities, workshops and shows every Wednesday and Thursday in July and August.
