    • LATOUR-MARLIAC, PRODUCER OF HARD WATER LILIES IN TEMPLE-SUR-LOT

A historic nursery specializing in water lilies

Since 1875, Latour-Marliac has stood out as a benchmark in France for the production of hardy and tropical water lilies.

Located in Temple-sur-Lot, this historic nursery perpetuates the botanical legacy of its founder, Joseph Bory Latour-Marliac.

Thanks to its unique know-how, it offers a vast collection of aquatic plants, including more than 250 varieties of water lilies as well as a selection of lotuses from all over the world.

      A remarkable garden to explore

The estate covers three hectares and has been awarded the Remarkable Garden label by the Ministry of Culture.

Visitors can walk along paths lined with ponds where many varieties of water lilies and aquatic plants bloom.

At the heart of this botanical haven, the national collection of the Nymphaea genus bears witness to the excellence and diversity of Latour-Marliac's horticultural creations.

A café-restaurant with a view of the pools

Café Marliac offers a gourmet break in the gardens.

Located on the terrace, this restaurant serves home-cooked meals using local produce from the Southwest. Guests can enjoy panoramic views of the water lily ponds, an ideal setting for a relaxing moment.

A source of inspiration for Claude Monet

Latour-Marliac is also famous for its historical connection with the painter Claude Monet. The artist discovered Latour-Marliac's hybrid water lilies at the 1889 World's Fair, where these plants were exhibited in front of the Trocadéro in Paris.

Monet was captivated and placed several commissions for his famous water garden at Giverny. The colorful water lilies from the nursery directly inspired his famous Water Lilies paintings, now on display at the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.

A shop to take a piece of Latour-Marliac home with you

Water garden enthusiasts can purchase water lilies and other aquatic plants directly on site or through the online store. The nursery also offers advice on creating and maintaining ponds, to help keep this botanical passion alive in private homes.

      What to discover around Latour-Marliac?

Le Temple-sur-Lot enjoys a privileged natural setting. Several sites in the surrounding area are worth a visit. Nature lovers can enjoy beautiful hikes along the banks of the Lot and in the surrounding hills.

Neighboring villages such as Pujols, classified among the most beautiful villages in France, or Villeneuve-sur-Lot, seduce with their architectural heritage and lively markets.

The region is also rich in local producers, offering a diversity of Lot-et-Garonne specialties, including Agen prunes, wines and local products. The markets of Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot and Castelmoron-sur-Lot allow you to discover these authentic flavors. Finally, heritage lovers can visit the Château de Bonaguil, a medieval masterpiece located around thirty kilometers away.

This is a beautiful natural site, we spent the day there and ate at the restaurant, where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I highly recommend this place to all families because there's a treasure hunt for children.

Superb stroll in a beautiful setting Guaranteed Zen At the brasserie: dirty tables, drinks not cold, no ice, billing error... As for the amenities, no toilet paper Images that could detract from the reputation of the place
