    • Located in Lot-et-Garonne, on the border of Lot and Dordogne, the Château de Bonaguil forms a unique ensemble in Europe, of impressive proportions and in a remarkable state of conservation. Lord Bérenger de Roquefeuil (1448-1530) devoted more than 30 years of his life to building this exemplary fortified castle. A true fortress, it will be inhabited until the French Revolution.

The commune of Fumel bought it in 1860 to preserve it from possible disappearance. From 1862, the site was listed as a Historic Monument and has since benefited from numerous restoration campaigns. During a guided or independent tour, immerse yourself in the heart of medieval history !

ANIMATIONS : Throughout the year, the Château de Bonaguil offers various cultural activities in an exceptional setting. Wednesday afternoons in July and August (as well as certain Mondays and Fridays), free thematic activities are offered to children : treasure hunts, archery, creative workshops... Program on the website www.chateau -bonaguil.com

SCHEDULE : The castle is open every day from April to September.
      • April / May / June from 10am to 6pm
      • July / August from 10am to 7pm
      • September from 10am to 6pm
      • October from 2pm to 5pm
From November to February, the castle is only open during school holidays, from 2pm to 5 p.m.

One of the best castles I've ever visited in my life. Yes, it's not fully intact, because repairs have probably been done until the ancient family lived here until 1950, but it's fully open. It means you can go and discover every angle and imagine yourself back in time. The castle was a particular building built on top of a cliff, at which base there is a natural cave passing through, that originally was used as a depot. The entrance fees, 9.5 euros, are really worth it. And we had the chance to get guided at the beginning from the lady in site that gave us a good overview of the local history, the castle and its proprietors.

Great castle to visit, the tour can take more than an hour! Well worth the climb to the panaromic roof of the Don Jon, where you'll have views over the whole valley. The village below is also extremely beautiful!

Beautiful castle to visit - much better than expected. Brilliant and helpful information on signs around the castle (in English too helpfully). Really nice views inside and out - would highly recommend. Good for 90 min visit.

This is a definite must-see spot when you're in the region. There is plenty of parking at the bottom of the chateau, and it's well worth the climb up (along a road) to the chateau. I don't remember...

Amazing place. Just a shame they insisted on masks being worn at ALL times, even when outside clambering up flights of steps which meant glasses misted up all the time! Bit OTT even in these worrying...
